Earlobe Piercing Aftercare

Your piercing has been performed under sterile conditions with the highest quality Studex earrings.

It is now advisable to purchase a bottle of Studex ear care solution, which is especially formulated to help protect and care for newly-pierced ears. Using your Studex ear care solution, just follow these ten simple guidelines to be absolutely sure of trouble-free pierced ears:

  1. Before touching your newly pierced ears, always wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Gently bathe the area of the newly pierced ear twice a day with Studex ear care solution. Apply a sufficient amount to the front and back of each ear. (For a cartilage piercing, the ear should be bathed four times a day.)
  3. After bathing your ears, gently rotate your earrings using a ‘watch winding action’ from left to right and then from right to left. (This prevents hair from being caught in the clutch and being wound onto the post.)
  4. Make sure to cover your ears when using hair spray, spray perfume or hair dye.
  5. After shampooing your hair, ensure that all soap is completely rinsed from the earlobes.
  6. Do not remove your Studex earrings for at least 6 weeks. (For a cartilage piercing, the earrings should not be removed for at least 12 weeks.)
  7. When removing earrings for the first time, the post of the earring should be cleansed with Studex ear care solution before removal to remove any bacteria that may have built up.
  8. Pain, redness or swelling is not a normal result of ear piercing. If discomfort occurs, consult your piercer.
  9. Studex ear care solution is a natural gold brightener and can be used to clean all your earrings and other jewellery.
  10. Cleaning ears with Studex ear care solution regularly after the ears have healed will help keep ears healthy and earrings clean.

Alternatively, if you decide not to purchase the Studex ear care solution then you must follow the guidelines set out below for warm salt-water bathing:

Using approximately1/4 teaspoon of salt (preferably sea salt if you have it) in a cup of warm boiled water, soak a cotton pad in the saline solution and place on the piercing for approx 3 – 5 minutes (until it cools down). This helps to open the pores of the skin and draw out any impurities. If there is a small amount of crusting around the stud, the heat of the water will loosen it off. You may need to use a cotton bud to help wipe away any crusting.

Once bathed, the stud should be turned using a “watch-winding action” as above in step 3.
